Anime Girl in Scrubs OOAK Polymer Clay Figure WIP

Anime Nurse Scrubs clay figure
My first completed figure for 2026. The beginning of the year has been difficult with so much snow and illnesses. I've just recovered from a bad case of RSV. This cutie is made out of polymer clay and painted with heat set gemini paints. She can be a nurse, resident, lab technology, or just chilling in a matching green outfit.
Silicone mold for anime sculpture

I started out with polymer clay in a silicone anime type figure mold. There are so many of these out there now. I made a strong wire armature,

This is what the mold looked like and here is figure assembled together. A benefit to a silicone mold verse plaster is that you can use many different clay types in the silicone mold. But I just stuck with polymer clay for this figure.
Anime girl polymer clay baking step
Here I am baking the clay parts for the first time. I got a new oven. In the past I used a Deni convection oven. This one is an SPT convection oven with digital controls. Temp can only be controlled in 25C increments but there is a 275F setting. And this model came with an extender ring so that the oven can hold higher sculptures too.

I first made the pin holes before baking so that I didn't have to drill holes after baking. Now I cut wire to size to attach the arms to the body. Actually, for this figure I did not change the post from the initial mold. I think it works ok for this figure though.
attaching polymer clay head to rest of body
For the head, it was a little bit more tricky since I had the wire already to cover the head part. I added the back of the head in clay and then baked. It was not held together too well, so after the first baking, I added more clay wedged in between the neck and the face.

I started with the pants, then baked. Then worked on the shirt and baked again.
flat clay in thin sheet
To make the clothes I used the pasta machine to roll clay into thin sheets. Maybe it could have been made thinner, but I made this work. Usually I do not use different colored clays but I was mixing up a new batch and the color happened to favor green scrub color to me, so I figured why not go in that direction for this figure.
sanding box for model work
I use this sanding or polishing box that I got off of temu. I like the style with the holes in the front. It is most comfortable for me to work this way. The size I got is the almost 29cm wide one. I tried a smaller one but the holes were too close together and it wasn't as comfortable as a result.
hair sculpting polymer clay
I worked on the hair last. I did the long hair style as another anchor point for the head to the rest of the body.
gemini heat set paints 4
Using Gemini heat set paints. The great thing is that they will dry instantly so I dont have to worry if the paint is dry enough before packing it away. But the rest is that the sculpture is going back into the oven multiple times and could risk damage as well.
gemini heat set paints back
When I paint with heat set paints, I paint the front half of the figure, bake it and then paint the back half. This is much different painting with air dry paints as I paint by same color.

Prosculpt Clay Hair sculpted Mermaids OOAK

Pearl mermaid polymer clay
My next set of mermaids I used two other Patricia Rose Press molds. The larger one is Pearl. Here is what she looks like from the mold.
I added more curves to her to make her older. I did not record too much of my WIP for these mermaids. I am very behind posting my projects. I want to post everything that I have on my memory cards so far and clean them before going on to next project. I have like 3-4 memories going and its a bit crazy keeping track for me right now.
The white shell is eco-resin from a silicone mold. Here I'm doing the hair using prosculpt clay. So no mohair wig for these.

Here im adding in the details in the hair and smoothing it over with polymer clay thinner.

Here is the Goldie Press mold. The body is a young child. I painted her a teen.
Here I am also sculpting in the hair. All 4 of my mermaids have fins for hands. Fingers are not my strong point. I have to work really hard on them and it I just thought it wasn't worth the time/effort for these as the fin hands look ok.

The smaller mermaid ended up with some breakage during the baking stage. I wanted a strong bond and I was still baking in the oven at least for the painting, so I had to use something that is oven safe.

I used magic smooth. It is a very strong adhesive once cured. and it is oven safe for polymer clay baking temps. It takes 24hrs to dry. Even after 10-12 hours, the magic smooth will still feel slightly sticky. Becare it can dry in very sharp points, so be sure to smooth it out. can be sanded as well. smooths with water. Very sticky though. I use gloves to mix, then change gloves to apply.
Here is the sanding box with the hand holes on the same side. This one is actually much bigger than the other type with the holes on either side that I showed in my mohair mermaid post. The plastic walls are much thinner on this model though, so it is very flimsly. This has since broke when it fell off the counter an a part chipped. I replaced it with a smaller same size as the other model with the holes on opposite ends, thinking it will be the same thicker plaster. Well I was wrong and its the same thinner plaster as the longer size. It seems to be studier since it is smaller.

Up to painting now. Again, I am using the Gemini heat set paints, starting with the skin first.

more painting pictures.
Almost finished
Painting the tail
Back to the larger size mermaid. These will not be ornaments,  and instead each one has a white shell as a base.
I just didn't like the hand fins on this one, so mid painting, I went back to sanding the hands. still went with the fin look but I think it's an improve from the far-left picture. This Gemini paint is really great though, because it really stayed on the clay even after sanding and getting wet, once it was heat set, it stayed.
Here it is complete.
